Red Bull Salzburg Announces New Coach

Gerhard Struber Takes Over

Matthias Jaissle Retires at 26

FC Red Bull Salzburg has appointed Gerhard Struber as their new head coach, just two days after the start of the 2023/24 ADMIRAL Bundesliga season. Struber replaces Matthias Jaissle, who has retired at the age of 26 due to injury.

Jaissle, who was a key player in Salzburg's success in recent years, has made the difficult decision to hang up his boots after suffering a serious knee injury in pre-season. He will now take up a role as a youth coach at the club.

Struber, 50, is a former Austrian international who has coached in Germany and England. He was most recently in charge of Barnsley in the English Championship, where he led the club to a 5th-place finish last season.

"I am very excited to be joining FC Red Bull Salzburg," said Struber. "This is a great club with a proud history and a bright future. I am looking forward to working with the players and staff to achieve success both domestically and in Europe."

Struber's first game in charge of Salzburg will be against Austria Wien on Saturday 29 July.
