Labor Day 2024 in the USA

A Celebration of American Workers

Mark Your Calendars for September 2, 2024

Labor Day is a national holiday in the United States that honors the contributions and achievements of American workers. It is observed annually on the first Monday in September, which in 2024 falls on September 2.

The origins of Labor Day can be traced back to the 19th century, when American workers faced harsh and exploitative working conditions. In response, labor unions emerged to fight for better wages, shorter hours, and safer working conditions.

In 1882, the Knights of Labor, one of the largest labor unions at the time, proposed a national holiday to honor workers. The proposal gained widespread support, and in 1894, Congress passed a law establishing Labor Day as a federal holiday. Since then, Labor Day has become a time for Americans to celebrate the hard work and dedication of our nation's workforce.

Today, Labor Day is celebrated with parades, barbecues, picnics, and other festivities. It is also a day of reflection and appreciation for the contributions of workers past and present who have built our country and made it a better place for all.
